First Woman to Head a Major Jewish Federation!

Jennifer Gorovitz, acting CEO of the San Francisco-based Jewish Community Federation, is “acting” no longer. Gorovitz, 46, was named CEO in May, becoming the first woman to head one of North America’s 20 largest Jewish federations. Gorovitz said: “It’s a wonderful feel-good moment for the staffs of [North American] federations, 75 percent of whom are women. I hope they’ll feel empowered.”

Women’s economic autonomy is an urgent safety issue: “Domestic violence is often addressed with advocacy initiatives that primarily focus on the provision of services to victims and survivors. By using public policy to improve women’s economic status, we can help eradicate one of the largest underlying reasons that violence against women persists: lack of financial security. No woman should have to choose between personal safety and economic stability for herself and her children.” Women’s economic autonomy is an urgent safety issue: “Domestic violence is often addressed with advocacy initiatives that primarily focus on the provision of services to victims and survivors.
