Shaddai Chants, a Seattle-based group, has released their debut album, featuring “sacred Iraqi Jewish music,” in Hebrew. Singer Loolwa Khazzoom, along with pianist Mikkel Lee Meyers, leads the group in “mystical, calming, and uplifting” chants ideal for healing practices, such as meditation. Some of the selected songs date back to Khazzoom’s childhood; she recalls them “leaving her with a whole-being sense of peace” and serving as “medicine” during her health struggles.
