Trafficking in Women
LILITH has reported on the continuing and shameful saga of sex slavery in Israel involving foreign women. Now a new hotline has been set up for women awaiting deportation in prisons after being arrested in brothels. The Hotline for Migrant Workers provides these women with legal services, and its existence pressures the government to treat trafficked women as victims, not as criminals. The Israeli High Court of Justice has granted the Hotline the status of “Amicus Curiae” (friend of the court), the New Israel Fund reports. (In Israel call 03-560-2530.)
