The New 40
“Young writers” and “30 under 30” lists abound in every field. Doesn’t it seem a little unfair? Lilith believes in nurturing talent at any age. So in that spirit we created an exciting opportunity: The New 40.
We selected a cohort of women 40 years old to 80+ who are mostly new to writing for publication to participate in Lilith’s unique, one-year program providing opportunities for mentoring, learning, peer support—and now, publication. We designed this project with the parallel goals of combating ageism and highlighting the rich stories this cadre of emerging writers has to offer.
Varying in age, background and location, our very first cohort learned from a select group of diverse, Lilith- affiliated writers, formed bonds with presenters and with each other, and began the process of developing a writing life and platform.
The talent, curiosity and kindness of the cohort enlivened Lilith’s Zoom sessions, and now their writing enriches the magazine as well.Enjoy some of their work here, with more to come in the next issues.
