SELECTED POEMS by Leah Goldberg. The Menard Press and Panjandrum Press, $3.50.
Nature serves as a trigger to memory in Leah Goldberg’s Selected Poems, translated from the Hebrew by Robert Friend. Goldberg (1911-1970) writes from the perspective of an older woman, juxtaposing the loveliness and power of nature with her own aging and her perceptions of the inevitability of death. Born in Lithuania, she came to Palestine in 1935 and draws many of her images from the Israeli countryside.
