Rape Crisis Center Closes
June 24, 1979
The Feminist Center in Tel Aviv, which included a Rape Crisis Center providing a telephone hotline for rape victims (see Kol Ishah, LILITH No. 5), as well as counseling, discussion groups and help in prosecuting rapists, was forced to close its doors when the landlord attempted to raise the monthly rent from IL 2,000 (about $83) to IL 5,000 (about $208).
Joanne Yaron, Tel Aviv feminist activist, said the group is now “looking for a new place to be used as a Center for the Movement.”
