Matronymic Metamorphosis

We’re actually in a new era, with a deep new gender consciousness around names.  In the space of just a few weeks, Lilith received these disparate -and fresh- pieces of the names puzzle: why women and men should be called to the Torah by their mother’s names, the female roots of common Jewish last names, a young groom electing to take his bride’s last name as his own, women reclaiming the Jewish tribal status of “kohen,” and much more.
