She Rescued Sephardic Song
Flory Papo Kabilio Jagoda, known as “The Keeper of the Flame” for her efforts to continue the traditions of her Sephardic and music heritage died in January at 97. Born in Bosnia in 1923, Jagoda’s familia was killed there during World War II. In a recent post on the Lilith Blog, chef Susan Barocas, who had learned from Jagoda, described her as “an instigator and inspiration” and “one of those few individuals with the remarkable ability to make each person feel truly special and important to her.”
