Survivor Pursues Nazi

Violetta Friedman, a grimly determined Auschwitz survivor who now lives in Madrid, is struggling for justice against a notorious and openly avowed Nazi, Leon Degrelle, who was condemned to death in Belgium after World War II for his war crimes but managed to escape to Spain.

In a television appearance and in an interview published in July 1985, Degrelle boasted about his Nazi past and denied the existence of the gas chambers. Friedman initiated legal proceedings to have Degrelle cease spreading lies in the media. The judge of the Civil Court of Madrid dismissed the case, and Friedman is continuing her appeal.
